Data Warehousing
This week in MIS 330 we talked about the concept of data warehousing which for the people that do not know exactly what this concept means is in short terms a company storing information about their customers when they make a purchase or invest from that company. After class on my walk home I began to think about all the companies that I know that use data warehousing. Some examples of this are American Eagle that has the customers rewards card and Cabela's. Recently I had gone on a website to talk to a customer service representative about my rewards account at a specific store. All I had to do is provide my name and she knew exactly what I had bought and a history of all of my previous purchases. I think that this is a great tool for a company to utilize and I see how it could really how a company as far as their marketing to which customer buys what products and services. Amazon.com also uses the concept of data warehousing to display a unique website for the account when you login. How do you guys feel about data warehousing? Like it? Dislike it? or in between?

From a business standpoint I like data warehousing. They have been doing it for years in grocery stores with those shopper cards. And like you said, they give you coupons for items that you are more likely to buy because they have your history.
However, from a privacy standpoint. I don't like people knowing what I buy, where I buy it, where I fly to, what hotels I stay in etc. I like my privacy.
